Here are ten things prospects hate.
- Time-sensitive offers. “If you don’t sign by the end of the month, the price will increase by 30%.”
- Poor follow-through. Not doing what you said you were going to do when you said you were going to do it.
- Burning the popcorn. Giving too much information. Vomiting product features.
- Commission breathe. Talking you into buying instead of guiding you to make up your mind.
- Desperation. “What do I need to do to win your business?” “We can offer you another discount.” “Just checking in on my email below.” “Just bumping this to the top of your inbox.”
- Any form of lying. “My boss told me to contact you.” Using “RE” in a subject line to get an open. Saying someone referred you when they didn’t. Local presence dialing. Telling part of the story instead of the entire story (lying by omission).
- A talk to listen ratio of 4:1. Flip it.
- Not taking no for an answer. “No, thank you.” But why don’t you want to.. ? “No thank you.” Give me two minutes to tell you about the… “Please remove me from your list” Aren’t you interested in saving money?
- Bashing the competition. Subconsciously says you’re insecure.
- Flattery. People see right through it, especially when you’re selling something.
