I’m behind a car at a red light.
The light turns green.
The driver doesn’t move.
He’s texting.
I resist the urge to honk my horn (react).
Instead, I paused to think about how I want to respond.
I ask myself, “What else might be true?”
Maybe the home alarm went off, and his kid is scared.
Perhaps he’s dealing with an urgent matter at work.
In that brief moment of self-restraint, the driver went through the green light.
The lesson?
Be in control of your mind. Don’t let your mind control you.
Learning how to respond, not react is an important skill to master.
Don’t make things worse.
Try not “honking.”
